10. Open water racing skills

Three swimmers in a line in the sea, swimming past rocky cliffs.

Summary

Developing your open water racing skills will help you perform better in events. You should practise navigation, swimming close to other swimmers, and how to do starts, turns and finishes. Also, think about your pacing strategy and race tactics. For longer events, you should also have a nutrition plan. Racing can be intimidating but you often find many first-timers at events.
