The Renaissance Swimmer Project

Become an accomplished all-round swimmer and enjoy a healthier, fitter and more adventurous life through swimming.

A project for curious, thoughtful and mindful swimmers.

Become a Renaissance Swimmer and connect physically and emotionally with everything swimming offers. Develop the Renaissance ideals of continuously learning, exploring and improving then apply these to your swimming and your life and find joy in that process. Become endlessly curious about your swimming and unlimited in what you can achieve. Make swimming not just something you do, make it a core part of your identity.

Become the best all-round swimmer you can be

With over 16 lessons and challenges, you will become a more knowledgeable, confident, and joyful swimmer. The Renaissance Swimmer project will equip you to make the most of the transformative power of water. You will swim further, faster, in colder water, in more places, boost your fitness and wellbeing, and have more fun.

The Renaissance Swimmer project was created by Simon Griffiths, founder and publisher of Outdoor Swimmer magazine, and author of Swim Wild & Free, A Practical Guide to Swimming Outdoors 365 Days a Year. Simon is an accomplished masters and outdoor swimmer and was part of the team that created the STA Open Water Coaching qualification.

Who is the project for?

Anyone who swims, in pools or open water, who enjoys thinking about their swimming and wants to swim more mindfully and expand their swimming skills.

What does it cover?

Everything from improving your swimming technique to pool racing, long-distance swimming and winter swimming – and ideas for applying what you learn in swimming to your life.

How does it work?

The project consists of 16 core sections. On signing up, you get full and immediate access. You will also receive a weekly email for 16 weeks to help keep you on track.

Discover more of what swimming can offer you

Enjoy a healthier, fitter and more adventurous life by becoming a Renaissance Swimmer. Adding any swimming to your life would be a good thing. But I’m suggesting a Renaissance-style approach and exploring everything swimming has to offer and enjoying all its benefits. Developing confidence and skills in one aspect of swimming helps you in others. The more you expand your swimming repertoire, the more you benefit – both in swimming and in life.
